Gold Dragons- These are the queens of the Dragons. They are always female and always bond with heterosexual females. . They are the largest of all dragons ranging in size from 38-42 meters from head to tail. Gold dragons are by far the rarest dragons on planet , at just less than 1% of the population. They are dominant over all other colors; any non-gold dragon will invariably obey a queen's orders, even against the wishes of its own rider. An egg that is going to hatch a gold dragon is notable: It is gold-colored and larger than other eggs. A gold dragon will always Impress a heterosexual female and are believed by most folk to prefer young women who were not raised in the Ferin.
Bronze Dragons - Bronze dragons are male, and always bond to heterosexual males and Females. They can hold a flame for several minutes. They are the largest of the male dragons, dwarfed only by golds, their sizes ranging around 35-38 meters long. They are almost always the ones to mate with queens, as the smaller colors generally lack the stamina to chase and catch the gold dragons when they rise to mate.
Silver Dragons - Silver dragons are female, and only hatch to heterosexual females. Silvers are a new color that is just emerging as a result of the strange atmospheric changes on the planet.
They are smaller than most bronzes and the same size or larger than most browns. This makes them quite effective in fighting. They range in size from 32-36 meters.
Brown Dragons Brown dragons are male and range in size from 30-35 meters long. Smaller than bronzes, they are still strong, avid fliers and fighters, and are more agile than the larger bronze. They may occasional mate with a queen, but this is not overly common, as the bronzes are able to outfly the slightly smaller browns. Browns normally hatch to only heterosexual or bisexual males. On some occasions browns do hatch to homosexual males.
Crimson Dragons - Crimson dragons are male. They are another of the new colors that have emerged due to the atmospheric changes.
Crimson dragons are smaller than browns but normally the same size or slightly larger than blues. They range in size of 28-31 meters long. They tend to have a fiery personality and truly enjoy the thrill of a fight. Crimsons will hatch a male of any sexuality and a female who is bisexual or homosexual.
Blue Dragons - Blue dragons are the smallest of the male dragons at 25-30 meters in length. They make up over a third of all the dragons on Pern and are the largest part of the fighting forces. They do not have the stamina that larger dragons have, making mating with queens nearly impossible. Blues do not normally stay in a fight for the whole fight for the same reason. Blues normally hatch for males of any sexuality, but they have been known to hatch homosexual or bisexual females with a strong masculine personality.
Green Dragons - Green dragons are the smallest of all normal dragon colors ranging in size from 20-25 meters. These infertile females are very agile and fast moving, though lack the stamina of larger dragons in mating and thread fighting. Greens make up nearly half of all dragon colors found on Pern.
Their flame is usually short, bursts of heat that make them ideal for mid to lower altitude cleanup during a war
Greens rise often to appease their own sexual appetite and those of the other dragons in the Ferin. Greens hatch to females of any sexuality, and homosexual males or bisexual males with a more feminine personality.
Black/Onyx Dragons: A rare type of colored dragons. These can be either male or female. Only Dragon Riders that are loyal to good can come across these types of dragons. These dragons are harder to tame than most and grows up to almost two times the size of a normal dragon.
Dragon Impression
When a dragon hatches, it only hatches when it feels the presence of its life mate. Thats why they have one Apprentice at a time walk into the hatchery touch all the eggs once and wait for one of them to hatch or else it would confuse the dragon hatchling if their were too many people inside the room.
If a dragon does not find a suitable candidate upon hatching, the dragon will become a training dragon.
Dragon Maturity
Dragons take anywhere from one and half to two turns to reach maturity. Normally, the larger the dragon the longer it takes to reach maturity. All dragons are normally ready to learn to fly around six months of age (about halfway to reaching adult maturity).
